Chicago!

Last night Kim and I went to see the Chicago musical!

It was amazing!!!

I would definitely see it again as well. The costumes were interesting. They all wore the same thing the whole show pretty much. Basically, I would say it was pretty simple compared to other plays but DAAANNNGGGG, was it good!
Before the play we had reservations at a place called Fire & Stone. They specialized in pizza. The one we chose to split had pumpkin seeds, two cheeses, some pepper (i think) and SqUaSh!!!
It was very delicious!

The day before our class travelled to Windsor Castle. Supposedly the Queen lives there in the summer. If I was her, I would not want it to be a museum. Why don't people live in all these castles I've gone to visit! I would have no problem living so elegantly. Oh, and inside the castle was Queen Victoria's doll house and dolls. The house was huge, I really don't think she played with it though because it was taller than me! And her doll had Cartier jewelry. GET SERIOUS!
The castle was pretty but they are all pretty much the same. You see one, you see them all I feel.

BUT, tonight Lauren and I are traveling to Cambridge for a concert. Its a band she loves but I don't know too much about. It should be fun though. Then again, tomorrow night we are going to a concert for a band she really likes. It was only 5 pounds because its a small band from the states I guess.

I can't get over how much little of time I have left over here. Right when it starts to get nicer out (weather wise) I gotta go!
That is so not fair.

LOLZ

Today I ventured to Convent Garden. I wasn't really expecting much but it was awesome!
I loved it there.
My original intent was just to go to paperchase to get a planner. Due to the Piccadilly line running severely slow, I had to walk from Holborn. It was such a nice day so the walk wasn't bad. When I arrived at Convernt Garden it was so different than what I expected. There was a market, restaurants, and shops. I stumbled on a store that had cute dresses at a huge discount. So... I got one :). I finally found paperchase, walked around the square. There were so many street entertainers like a soccer guy that had excellent handling skills, a tree person that squeaked?, and my favorite, a guy sitting on a chair with a top hat and glasses, but had no face (it was under his suit coat. That was pretty fun. There were also people playing guitars and singing so I decided to grab a lunch at M&S and eat on the square along with many other people. THEN, this lady ended up standing behind me. She was literally crazy I think. She ended up dancing to the guy singing.... so I decided to take a video of her because seriously, she was weird. And she yelled/talked to herself about people walking "in her space" and got mad because someone lit up a cigarette by her and she said "I don't want to get cancer again! Kill yourself if you want to!"
You have to watch it, I didn't get the best of her dancing though but you'll get the idea.

i can see again!

To catch everyone up....
my eye acted up. Of course... on Friday the 13th. What terrible luck.
It was interesting to see their health system. The doctor I went to was a private doctor which was a lot better than the public heath system (I am told and would probably agree with). He was a nice doctor. I got treated well and fast. One problem was having to deal with the public transportation to get to the hospitals. The only good thing out of that was having to go to Victoria station every time meaning I got a Krispy Kream donut. Got to eat all I can when I'm young! I got some cool eye drops that I probably can't use/have in the states which is a bummer. They are new from Germany (that makes me feel special!) I slept for like 3 days straight. Basically almost a week out of my trip here was lost which is really a bummer. Oh, and the bills also were no good.
I was really ready to hop on the next plane home though.

But, today Nikki and I went to Primrose Hill! It was so beautiful! I definitely want to go back. And we realized after sitting there for a bit that everyone coming up there had cases of beer in their hands? Guess we should prepare more for next time. Maybe we will also spot a celebrity too, because thats where some live.

Last week our day trip was to Greenwich. The boat ride there was really fun but we went to the meridian and we had a tour of this museum there and it was seriously 3 hours long! ABOUT CLOCKS AND LONGITUDE AND LATITUDE! It was the worst thing ever and everyone was so angry at the end!
I missed the trip to Stonehenge and Bath because of my eye :(

Thats really it.

Its been so long since I have last posted. Sorry about that. Since there has been so much stuff going on i'll split it up.

GREECE
Greece was very relaxing. A group of eleven of us went. The first night we stayed in Athens. ITS DIRTY! There are dogs all over the place that are just stray. It was funny when we were visiting the parthenon and all the ruins there were like 4 dogs following us. I don't know if they were protecting us or what but there was a homeless looking guy that was walking down the same street and the dogs just started attacking him! Thats when we got scared and didn't want them by us anymore. Nobody really wanted to get rabies or whatever on that trip.
The ruins were pretty interesting but they had some construction going on. It was definitely pretty by the parthenon. Its located on top of a hill so you could look over Athens.
We went to our island, Agistri, the day after. Agistri was very pretty. The water was sooo blue. GORGEOUS! It didn't really look like mamma mia but was still a sight to see!
One girl on the trip was like.. "i've been to a deserted island and I forgot my 5 things!" haha.
It really was deserted though. There were like 3 restaurants that were opened. Greek salads in Greece are delicious! They aren't like back home in the states. I'm going to write down the recipe to make when I come home. The green apples there are also the best!
Our last full day in Agistri was so nice weather wise. Robin took a few of us on a little photo shoot on the beach. Danielle and I got in the water as much as we could. It was beyond amazing. I wish all the other days were as nice but it was quite windy.
Just go look at my pictures on photobucket.

LIVERPOOL & MANCHESTER
My British Life and Cultre class took a two day trip to Liverpool and Manchester. It was overall ok. I think it could have been more fun if we had more time at each place. In Liverpool I went to the Beatles museum. I had fun there. Its hard with a big group though because its hard to keep your own pace. I thought it was interesting though. Lauren and I ate a pretty good dinner at a place called Ha!Ha! I love the name. After that we met up with everyone at a bar which had an acoustic open mic night.
The next day we went to Manchester. We had a guided tour on our coach. (Their coaches here, not buses!) Before we headed back to London we took a tour of Manchester United football stadium. I honestly wasn't really impressed. It seemed like everyone else was obsessed with the team just because we were there.

Today Lauren and I went to the science museum. It was pretty interesting. I like the one in Chicago better though. My favorite part was called 'Who am I?' It basically had all different exhibits set up about humans like, gender, aging, comparing brains of different animals, etc. Another part that was really cool was this exhibit that takes peoples internet conversations and puts them to a symphony type sound. Its really hard to explain without seeing it, but anyways, it was neat-O!

On Thursday Nikki and I went to Fashion Weekend. It really wasn't what I expected. The boutiques set up had kind of crappy clothes, as in, they were very basic, some weren't made well, and they looked like mom clothes kind of? But our goody bags were fun. We got some snacks, bronzer (a big one!), a bathing suit (which i threw out because it was crappy), perfume, the new elle, and other things. My favorite part was the catwalk. It wasn't just one designer. This catwalk was taken in 4 sections. They were all different looks for the upcoming spring/summer season.

I finally found tortilla chips and refried beans so i'm definitely making NACHOS soon! This really excites me if you can't tell!
I have a lot of homework due soon, which I'm dreading. For my Brit Lit class we had to do a 20 minute oral presentation! That is ridiculous! Then in Brit Life & Culture I have a photo story (which I've started) and a (someone told me 6 page) letter to someone 'back home', but not really. I don't think its 6 pages either, but maybe. Then in Brit Music we have to write a review for a classic album. Mine is some Led Zeppelin album.

I only have 37 days left :(
It's sad because I really like it here.

Home sweet home

Lately I have been thinking about how I am enjoying my time here. I really feel like London is my home right now. I am very familiar with my surroundings, I'm starting to get to know more people around here/confident to be able to strike up a conversation with anyone around me, and I love it here! I really do. Maybe I can get mum and dad and rachael to move here! (in my dreams!!!)

I think this will also help me prepare for what type of job lies in my future. With fashion I think it would be likely to move to a bigger city and now I think I would be able to handle this kind of lifestyle.

One thing I don't like is that I have been sick twice so far and I rarely get sick at home. Its just throat/cold/being stuffed up sickness but its annoying!

Two more days until Greece! There are 11 of us going. It will be an adventure to say the least! Our flight leaves at 6:50 so were planning on leaving the flat at 3:30 in the morning! The flight is 6 hours on easyjet... people say an easyjet ride for that long will be hard because the plane has less room than one were used to. I personally fit well while going to Paris and fell asleep comfortably. But then again I'm smaller than others here.

Robin, Lauren M., and I saw confessions of a shopaholic the other day. It wasn't as good as I expected. There were some very funny parts though. In all honesty, I would suggest waiting for it to come out on DVD, don't waste your money.

This week is FASHION WEEK here in London, Nikki and I are going to go see whats going on around those parts of town. Hopefully my dreams will come true and I will see **MARY-KATE OLSEN** ahhhh.... heaven.
Then the week we get back from Greece Nikki and I are going to Fashion Weekend which is a smaller fashion week put on by Elle. We think its just local designers. But it will be a fun experience. We get to attend the event for 4 hours, go to one catwalk, and get a goody bag! woo hooo!
Ok, well I might be updating when I come back from Greece next. Until then, I hope you all are doing well!

Good to be hom

This weekend I traveled to Paris with Robin and Lauren. It was an experience.
We arrived Thursday. Airports here are a lot different in the way they are set up. The flight was less than an hour. It took us awhile to figure out the subway there, especially when you don't know their language. Our hotel was ok for the first two nights. Small. We met up with a friend of a friend of Laurens that night. His name was Stephan. We met at a bar, let me just say that Paris boys are really nice. They just come up to you and talk. But Stephan bought us all beers which was nice and showed us around town on Friday. I was so thankful because he knew so much more than we ever would have known if we did everything ourselves. We went to the Louvre which was quite interesting. I wish I could have spent more time there, but I dont think everyone else was really enjoying it much. We saw the Mona Lisa which was honestly not that interesting. But my favorite part of the Louvre was the statues! Its hard to imagine how old they are and still look so amazing!
The places we visited were:
  • The Eiffel Tower
  • Notre Dame
  • The Louvre
  • Sacre Coeur: this was amazing because you could look out and see the whole city!
  • The Cafe from the movie Amelie!!
  • DISNEYLANDDDDDDDDD
Disneyland was great! Lauren and I went on Valentines Day. We got autograph books and everything! haha. Made the best of our silly day. Saw Jack from The Nightmare Before Christmas, whom I have never seen at disney before so that was neato!
Oh, and get this... we had a meal that was 17 euros!!!!! THATS LIKE 25 DOLLARS FOR LUNCH!
I went to Paris and all I got was a crappy 25 dollar salad, dessert, and bread!
I didn't even get a drink! They played me a fool!
But yeah, we were supposed to stay with Laurens friend on Saturday so we didn't book a hotel for that night and that didn't end up happening so we had to get a last minute hotel. It was at Quality Inn which was nicer than the one before (and it should have been for the price) but yeah.. it was the best sleep I have had in a while. And the whole couch thing hasn't been working out well the past 2 nights.
OH WELL.

SO last night we, as a group, went to see mousetrap the play. It ended up being really good. BUT, on our way there we got a little lost and ended up right next to............

THE PREMIER OF CONFESSIONS OF A SHOPAHOLIC!!!! It was so cool! Like with all the celebrities and everything people!!! It was so neat! I didnt see anyone but the experience of being right there was surreal! And I told our G.A at the play that we got RIPPED OFF! And we were supposed to be seeing the premiere tonight, not the mousetrap ha.

Last week we also went to Cambridge college. I really liked the area. All students have to ride bikes because they aren't allowed cars. I like that policy! The town was so old and beautiful. I put pictures up of a bunch of things I have done the past week.

Tonight we are going to an IceBar! sooo cool! I can't wait!

Love you!

week four already?!

So today has been rainy rainy rainy rainy rainy. Thats all I can say.
My toes turned to prunes as I went out searching for rain boots. No luck today.
I had a donut with sprinkles today, it was really good. Thats about the only good thing that has come out of this manic monday.

Tonight we are attending Les Miserables*. It should be a great musical, but I'm very down in the dumps because of this rain. SRSLY!

This weekend Robin, Ryan, and I went to Brussels. It was a pretty city, but not much to do. We walked around the whole time for two days. We ended up going to the train station like 4 hours early because it was windy, rainy, and cold the last day. I saw the peeing boy statue. Waffles were DELICIOUS, chocolate was DELICIOUS... basically i don't want any sugar as of now.
I would love to write more but I need to eat before the play!

SNOW!!!!!!!!!!

Guess what... There is snow everywhere! It was so pretty last night with the large, light, fluffy snowflakes falling ever so lightly over London! I dont know why, but snow is so much more exciting here. But i can sled here :( I was down in another flat with some girls and there were all these people playing outside and throwing snowballs and falling down. haha. AND, our classes were canceled today, but im not too happy about that because SRSLY, we only have ten classes.

This weekend wasn't too great. Our flat turned to an icebox, and so did the outside weather. I was tucked into my couch bed reading most of the time.

On Saturday Nikki and I went to Camden Market. It was ok, I like Portabello Market a lot better. But I got my sister a present that is sweet, I am taking a fancy to the fake Louis Vuitton duffel myself!

I think I might go to TopShop (my favorite store here!) and get a manicure.. depending on how much it is. They do everything there, haircuts, brow waxing, manicures, they have a restaurant, and the clothes are toooo cute! ahhh, heaven <3

Tomorrow we are going on a Jack-the-Ripper walk, no matter what the weather. It should be fun. I'm still a little disappointed with NO CLASS. There is like 3 inches of snow people!

I watched the first 3 quarters of the Super Bowl, I'm guessing the Steelers one. The guy who was doing commentary here (only on breaks) was British, but speaking to two American commentary people. But nevertheless, the British dude didn't know much about American Football. Someone mentioned that he should be doing cricket, not football haha.

OHHHHH, and gREAT NEWS!
I have been looking at villas/houses for when we go to Greece in the end of February and I found the perfect house! I could not be happier! We are flying into Athens on Monday, staying the night there. Getting a ferry to the island, then staying there for four nights with a barbecue, beach, 5 bedrooms for 10 people, and everything! I can't wait! We can rent bikes and go hiking! And its only going to be around 48 euros per person! LOOOOVVVVEEEE IIITTTT!

Well I am going to prepare to get ready for the day. I've been watching home shows all morning because thats all that is on. I end up being on cloud nine at 5pm when the simpsons come on, whereas I rarely watched that at home... go figure.

Have a great day all!

PICTURES!

I finally have uploaded all my pictures, I think.

Here is the link:

http://s569.photobucket.com/albums/ss134/kcmayer137/

To the left hand side you will see different albums including brighton, of montreal, thames river walk, etc.
Yesterday Robin, Lauren, and I went to Brighton for the Of Montreal concert. Brighton is such a cute little town! I definitely want to go back. AND they have a beach, but the sand is more like pretty large rocks ha. The Pier there is fun! It reminds me of Navy Pier in Chicago, but has more rides and entertainment like that. The concert was SO much fun! We were standing right in the front row and I felt so mature when I had the chance to drink a beer at a concert legally haha. Sorry Rach, don't need you anymore!

I hope you enjoy the pictures!
But now I have a bit of homework to do.
